Data governance

Data governance: leveraging your data, protecting your organisation

Data governance and strategy are key. They ensure we’re sharing the right data, in the right way.

Data governance is a deceptively simple term for what can become - but doesn’t have to be - a complicated situation.

This isn’t governance in the sense of a Board. Instead, it’s the roles in your organisation which you task with looking after, managing, releasing and reporting against your data. It’s fundamental to ensuring your data’s properly managed, to protecting your organisation’s security, and to protecting everyone’s privacy.

It’s becomingly increasingly important, but is often still a neglected area in most organisations.

We can help you:

  • map your existing business and data flows

  • build a functional data directory / catalogue

  • map who may already be informally undertaking data governance work

  • design formal data governance roles for your organisation

  • design the data governance processes which those roles will be using, iterating and optimising

  • improve your data management, and thus organisational effectiveness and trustworthiness.

We can also advise you on alternate data governance models such as data trusts and other data collaboratives, and whether those might be suited to your organisation / sector / user needs.
